Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) said today it will donate HK$10 million to the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS) for families living in subdivided flats to ride out the storm with grassroots community and support households which face challenges meeting their rental payments during the coronavirus outbreak.
A total of 2,000 eligible households will each receive a one-off subsidy of HK$5,000, about the monthly median rent for a subdivided flat in Hong Kong.
The criterias are monthly household income before the epidemic of not more than 75 percent of Hong Kong’s median monthly domestic household income, at least 30 percent household income reduction due to the epidemic, household with dependent children aged 18 or below, and non-Comprehensive Social Security Assistance household recipient.
The HKCSS will manage and supervise the entire program and applications will be accepted via 15 non-governmental organization units from April 23 to May 6. Successful applicants will receive subsidy payments on May 13 onwards.
The subsidy payment will be made via Faster Payment System to ensure that households are able to receive funds in an easy and timely manner to address their pressing needs, the bank said.
